Job Title: Lead Legal Practitioner - Civil Justice

Legal Aid South Africa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Legal Practitioner to join our team in Stellenbosch.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing legal aid to the poor in the Western Cape, ensuring efficient case flow management at courts, and providing support and advice to clients. Additionally, they will act as a principal for Candidate Attorneys, supervise and guide Legal Practitioners and Paralegals, and train staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage legal aid services to vulnerable individuals in the area of jurisdiction.
  • Monitor and optimize case flow management processes at local courts.
  • Provide expert legal guidance and support to clients, adhering to common law principles and accurate contract interpretation.
  • Supervise and mentor Candidate Attorneys, ensuring their development and growth.
  • Foster a culture of excellence among Legal Practitioners and Paralegals, promoting sound management practices.
Requirements
  • Admitted Attorney or Advocate with a strong background in civil justice.
  • B Proc or LLB degree from a reputable institution.
  • A minimum of 12 years post-qualification experience, with at least 10 years' post-admission experience, including 4 years of court experience.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a proven ability to manage diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in training and developing Candidate Attorneys.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with a valid driver's license.

We offer a competitive salary package, commensurate with experience, which includes a base salary of approximately R1,200,000 per annum, plus benefits.
