Job Title: Technical Manager

The SA Metal Group (Pty) Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager to join our Engineering Division in Cape Town. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting with the management of the engineering division for the Cape Town region.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience in a heavy industrial environment. They will be responsible for evaluating and establishing best practices in repair methods, providing cost analysis on repair services and manufactured components, and managing development and expansion projects across the Group.

The Technical Manager will assist with directing 10 separate artisan departments, comprising of more than 150 employees. Each department is managed by its own Manager, and the Technical Manager will be responsible for providing guidance and support to these teams.

External services providers will be used to supplement the in-house team when specialized skill sets or additional resources are required. The Technical Manager will be responsible for managing relationships and services with these providers.

The Engineering Division consists of a team of Engineers, led by the Engineering Divisional Directors, who are also Mechanical Engineers. The successful applicant will join this team and report directly to the Senior Engineering Manager.

Qualifying Criteria:
  • Qualified Mechanical Engineer or Mechatronics Engineer with a strong background in heavy industrial environments.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant working experience in a heavy industrial environment as a practicing engineer.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a management role in an operations environment.
  • Diagnostic skills and logical thinking are essential, with the ability to think on your feet and work under pressure.

Job Details:

Job Type: Permanent position.

Standard Hours:

07h30–17h00: Monday – Thursday.

07h30–16h00: Friday.

May be required to work overtime as per operational requirements.
