Job Purpose:

West Coast Personnel is seeking a seasoned Internal Audit Lead to manage the Internal Audit function. This role provides assurance and consulting services to the board, audit committee, and executive management. The successful candidate will evaluate and improve risk management, controls, and governance processes across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a risk-based audit plan aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
  • Conduct thorough audits and reviews of activities to ensure effective risk management and internal controls.
  • Evaluate risk management and internal controls to identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide consulting services to business units to enhance risk management and internal controls.
  • Communicate audit findings and ensure action plans are implemented to mitigate risks.
  • Monitor implementation of action plans to ensure effective risk management and internal controls.
  • Report to the audit committee on audit activities and findings, providing strategic recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and other assurance providers to ensure a cohesive risk management approach.
  • Lead the internal audit team to ensure effective risk management and internal controls across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • CA(SA) or Certified Internal Auditor (SA) is a non-negotiable requirement.
  • IT Risk and audit certification is desirable.
  • Risk management certification is desirable.
  • Risk modelling is desirable.

Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of internal auditing standards and ethics.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and statutory environment of an insurance company is desirable.
  • Knowledge of King IV and governance principles.
  • Understanding of IT risk and data management frameworks.

Skills:

  • Hands-on management of a lean internal audit team is a non-negotiable requirement.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Professionalism, empathy, and strong communication skills.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Adaptability and flexibility.
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa at least twice a year.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years in audit, with at least 3 years in internal audit.
  • Experience in leading/managing an internal audit team.
  • Broad audit experience, including operations and financial audits.
  • Experience in IT audit is desirable.
  • Experience in insurance company audit is desirable.
