About the Role:

The Residential Youth Worker provides care and/or support to children and young people in out-of-home care and/or living within at-risk families. The care and support provided will enhance opportunities for the young person to participate in age-appropriate activities to support development of positive self-regard, to support community inclusion, to support positive relations with family of origin, and to contribute to placement stability.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and engage in meaningful activities with the young person.
  • Be a vital part of a cohesive team dedicated to helping young people achieve their personal goals.
  • Promote good hygiene and nutrition.
  • Maintain daily case notes, handle administrative tasks, and prepare incident reports.
  • Flexibility is key; availability for sleepover, awake, and weekend shifts is essential.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Certificate IV or higher qualification in Child, Youth & Family Intervention, Youth Services, Community Services, or a related field.
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children's Check QLD).
  • Current Licensed Care Service (LCS).
  • Completion of Hope and Healing Framework training.
  • Current Queensland Driver's License.
  • The ability to provide two recent referees of supervisors.

  • Proactive communicator and relationship builder with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Utilize a trauma-informed approach in understanding child development and behavior.
  • Capability to recognize the role of family dynamics, particularly in child protection contexts.
  • Supportive of youth in activities and foster independent living skills.
  • Effectively contribute to team outcomes.
  • Ability to operate autonomously while seeking guidance as needed.
  • Able to respond to crises flexibly, considering risk and compliance.
  • Understanding of provision of care in accordance with the Child Protection Act 1999.
