Group Operations Director

Job Description
The Group Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the lodge's operations, working closely with the Lodge Resident Manager to ensure seamless execution. Key responsibilities include managing the lodge's budget, tracking revenue and expenses, and implementing strategies to maximize profitability.
Regular performance reports are prepared to analyze occupancy rates, revenue, and expenses. The manager must address and resolve any issues or problems that arise in a timely and effective manner, including management of Annual Union Negotiations. Sustainable practices within the lodge are promoted through initiatives such as water conservation, waste reduction, and energy efficiency.
Strategic Planning
Operational strategies aligned with the organization's overall goals are developed and implemented by the Group Operations Manager. Collaborating with senior management, long-term plans and objectives are formulated. The broader goals of the group are driven forward as agreed with the General Manager of Operations.
Resource Management
The allocation of resources, including personnel, equipment, and finances, is overseen by the Group Operations Manager. Resource utilization is optimized to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
Process Optimization
Continuous evaluation and improvement of operational processes are undertaken by the Group Operations Manager to enhance efficiency and productivity. Best practices and innovative solutions are implemented to streamline workflows.
Supply Chain Management
A seamless flow of goods and services from suppliers to customers is ensured by the Group Operations Manager. Risks in the supply chain are mitigated, and strong vendor relationships are established.
Team Leadership
Effective leadership and management skills are essential for this role. A high-performing operations team is built and led by the Group Operations Manager. A collaborative and positive work environment is fostered to enhance team morale and productivity.
Quality Control
Quality control standards are established and enforced by the Group Operations Manager to meet customer expectations. Measures are implemented to identify and rectify defects or inefficiencies in processes. The lodge's quality plan is driven forward, and all required standards are implemented.
Risk Management
Potential risks are identified and strategies to mitigate them are developed by the Group Operations Manager. Contingency plans are established to ensure business continuity in the face of unforeseen challenges.
Technology Integration
Cutting-edge technology solutions are evaluated and implemented by the Group Operations Manager to enhance operational efficiency. Technological advancements are stayed abreast of to leverage innovative tools.
Requirements
- Grade 12 Formal hotel / hospitality tertiary qualifications.
- Tertiary education in Sales & Marketing would be advantageous.
- A minimum of 5 years General Management experience in Hospitality Industry with proven track record within a Luxury Lodge environment.
- Excellent communication, customer service & organization skills, possessing a good command of the English language.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, along with financial acumen and a customer-centric approach to ensure smooth operations and guest satisfaction.
- Able to multitask and deliver in accordance with company standards.
- Ability to handle pressure, and addressing and resolving conflicts professionally and efficiently if required.
- Valid RSA ID.
- Valid Drivers License and own vehicle required.
- Position includes extensive travel.
- Knowledge of Game Reserve Operations and an understanding of luxury safari operations to ensure the implementation and delivery of luxury standards in all properties.
- Dynamic self-starter Personality profile to match relevant skills.
- Well presented.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Team player with high level of dedication.
- Good negotiation skills.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of OPERA PMS, NEBULA and APEX Systems.
