About the Role

The Specialist: Forensics is a critical position within the Road Accident Fund, responsible for providing expert knowledge and support in fraud investigations and forensics-related matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Policy Development and Implementation
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policy, procedures, and processes to minimize corruption and fraud incidents.
    • Stay up-to-date with effective policy and practice execution strategies to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Forensic Investigation
    • Plan and coordinate the investigation of cases assigned by management, ensuring thorough and timely completion.
    • Maintain partnership relationships with prosecuting authorities and law enforcement agencies to facilitate effective collaboration.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports to management, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
    • Identify and report potential loopholes in processes that may lead to abuse or corruption.
    • Investigate irregularities and provide evidence to support prosecution of parties involved.
    • Maintain a healthy working relationship with law enforcement agencies and private investigation partners.
    • Analyze reports from external stakeholders and compile affidavits to support criminal charges.
    • Register and track criminal cases with the Police or Hawks (DPCI) and maintain accurate records.
    • Compile comprehensive monthly activity reports and submit them to the Forensics Manager.
    • Provide expert testimony in criminal courts and departmental hearings.
    • Analyze spreadsheets on touts and investigate reports from Tip-Offs Anonymous.
    • Participate in internal and external fraud campaigns initiated by the Forensic Department or in conjunction with the Communications Department.
    • Effectively manage cases and maintain accurate records, including inspections, case books, and vehicle registers.
    • Provide feedback to stakeholders on investigations referred to the team.
  • Fraud Prevention and Investigation
    • Participate in the implementation of approved fraud and investigation initiatives to improve the organization's ethical culture.
    • Promote proactive fraud prevention initiatives within the organization.
    • Participate in fraud investigations conducted by external parties.
    • Provide properly investigated cases to the Claims department to support assessment and payment of valid claims.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of systems and platforms to detect fraud throughout the claims lifecycle.
    • Identify opportunities to innovate and improve fraud investigation initiatives and their execution.
  • Reporting and Stakeholder Management
    • Prepare and submit regular reports to management, providing progress updates and informing business unit decisions.
    • Develop proposals, briefings, presentations, reports, and other documentation to provide management information.
    • Implement forensics awareness initiatives and facilitate communication with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Engage proactively with key stakeholders to build relationships and ensure effective collaboration.
  • Qualifications and Experience
    • Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Law, Accounting, Auditing, or Forensic Investigations.
    • Relevant 5-7 years' experience in a fraud investigation-related environment.
