About the Role

Ilifa Labantwana is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Researcher to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in driving legal research and analysis to support our vision of ensuring universal access to quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop enabling legal frameworks for ECD: Conduct thorough research and analysis of legal sources to inform new legislation and refine government reforms proposed by Ilifa. Stay up-to-date with relevant parliamentary processes and decisions.
  • Technical Legal Drafting of ECD law and regulation: Provide technical support for the drafting of a standalone ECD Act, refinement of norms and standards for early learning programmes, and the design of intersectoral partnership arrangements for the scale-up of quality ECD.
  • Advocacy and stakeholder engagement: Support Ilifa colleagues and partners to inform relevant advocacy strategies underpinned by the human rights framework. Develop information materials such as discussion papers, articles, and policy guidelines based on evidence and their practical application.
Requirements
  • Post-graduate qualification in Law
  • At least 5 years' legal research experience, ideally in social justice or the development sector
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Constitution, government systems, legislation, regulatory, and policy frameworks.
  • Understanding of the powers and functions of different spheres of government
  • Working experience in children's rights and/or education law is preferred.
