The Department of Health is seeking a qualified Medical Registrar to fill a position in the Emergency Unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, managing emergency cases, and contributing to a multidisciplinary team.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • MBChB degree
  • FCEM part 1 qualification
  • At least 12 months experience in Emergency Medicine
  • Valid Independent practice registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Service delivery in the Emergency Unit
  • Managing P1 and P2 patients, also P3 patients in the triage section of the unit
  • Attendance of in-service training M&M meetings
  • Presenting cases during academic meetings
  • Training of medical students and nursing staff
  • Overtime duties are included and are a necessary part of the working hours in the Emergency Unit
  • Rotation to other clinical departments for a period of 15 months out of a 4-year period
