Job Title: Head of Licensing, Africa

Based in Johannesburg, with occasional travel to Lagos and Nairobi, we are seeking an ambitious executive to amplify the growth of our client's licensing operations in Africa.

About the Role:

Our client, a leading digital music platform, is looking for a seasoned professional to lead their licensing efforts in Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for negotiating and clearing content rights, growing the commercial value of licensing agreements, and managing copyright compliance and legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive licensing strategy to ensure a strong catalog offering and drive revenue growth.
  • Negotiate major licensing agreements with right holders, including identifying key decision makers and preparing compelling business cases.
  • Grow the commercial value of licensing operations by negotiating better deals with right holders and increasing the company's ability to commercialize rights in creative ways.
  • Manage the performance of the pan-African licensing team, including performance management, planning, and execution of new initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the music industry, with a significant portion in licensing and rights management.
  • Deep understanding of the African music market and the global music industry, with a proven track record in negotiating and securing major licensing agreements.
  • Strong entrepreneurial drive, solid business acumen, and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to prepare and present compelling business cases.
  • Leadership and team management skills, with experience in performance management and strategic planning.
Beneficial Experience:
  • Familiarity with digital music platforms and technology trends in the music industry.
  • Prior experience in a senior leadership role, preferably within the music, entertainment, or digital media industries.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make strategic decisions.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and lobby in public and private forums.
