Procurement Specialist for Meat Export

Purpose of the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the purchasing of all meat procurement both locally and internationally, ensuring that the export process is done correctly and in line with South African and International regulations. This includes conducting inspections of local containers whilst being loaded, managing relationships with suppliers, and negotiating market support and pricing terms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing purchasing strategies for fresh and frozen meat exports.
  • Establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Negotiating market support from suppliers.
  • Managing costs throughout the value chain from livestock to final cuts required by clients.
  • Monitoring order execution with suppliers and export coordinators to ensure adherence to protocols.
  • Inspecting and loading containers, requiring physical presence.
  • Liaising with suppliers, negotiation, market report feedback.
  • Collaborating with PPECB inspectors and veterinary department for shipment documentation.
  • Negotiating pricing and payment terms with suppliers.
  • Sourcing new suppliers and developing relationships with existing clients.
  • Problem-solving and claim resolution.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience

  • Exceptional knowledge of meat grades and cuts, particularly pork, beef, chicken, lamb, and fish.
  • Good understanding of the meat export process.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role with expertise in purchasing.
  • Current relationship with meat suppliers.
  • Understanding of import regulations for meat in South Africa would be beneficial.
