Job OverviewWe are seeking a highly motivated English teacher to join our team of dynamic educators. As an English teacher at SPARK Schools, you will be responsible for driving student achievement by maintaining high expectations for classroom culture, behavior, and academic growth for all students.
You will receive ongoing professional development tailored to your experience and individual needs, allowing you to grow and develop as a teacher. All our teachers are integral to our school's culture, and we are committed to creating rigorous, engaging learning experiences for our scholars.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver lessons in English, Social Science, and Personal and Social Well-being to students, depending on the grade level and timetable.
- Provide instruction in a variety of subjects and reach students with engaging lesson plans and resources.
- Collaborate with grade-level and content-area partners to develop rigorous, engaging learning experiences and create individualized behavior and learning plans for all students.
- Lead weekly SEL (Social Emotional Learning) circles and implement our Social Emotional Learning curriculum.
- Use our culture and implement behavior management strategies.
- Administer and mark weekly and termly formative and summative assessments to track student progress and analyze the data for student growth.
- Focus on student achievement and drive all scholars to meet required proficiency ratings.
- Submit student results data when required.
- Attend pre-service professional development before the school year begins and participate in weekly professional development and training interventions.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all SPARK Schools events and interactions.
- Nurture a high-achieving work environment where all students feel genuinely valued and supported.
- Participate in Saturday events and parent community meetings.
- Implement strategies implemented by our Crisis Management team.
- Adhere to our child protection, anti-bullying, and health and safety policies.
- Promote our vision and mission to staff, scholars, families, and the broader community.
To be successful in this role, you will possess the following qualifications:
- A degree or PGCE in Education, specifically Intermediate/Senior Phase.
- Certification from the South African Council of Educators (SACE).
- SAQA accreditation for non-South African equivalent qualifications.
- Fluency in the English language.
- A clear criminal record.
