Job Description

The Head of Department for the Intermediate Phase will be responsible for leading curriculum planning and implementation, ensuring that all teaching practices align with educational standards and objectives. This includes developing and monitoring effective assessment strategies to evaluate learner progress and adapting teaching methods accordingly.

Additional responsibilities include interpreting and applying policies related to assessments, CAPS, and ATP to ensure compliance and facilitate optimal learning outcomes. The successful candidate will also collaborate closely with the principal and other school leaders to foster a cohesive and supportive educational environment.

The Head of Department will provide guidance and support to teaching staff within the department, promoting professional development and continuous improvement. They will also liaise with parents, guardians, and the wider educational community to enhance learner engagement and school reputation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree in Intermediate Phase and be SACE registered. A minimum of 3 years' school management experience or a similar role is required, along with proven ability to communicate effectively in both English and Afrikaans.

Candidates should also have strong leadership and organisational skills, with a focus on driving educational excellence. Excellent interpersonal, people, and emotional intelligence skills are essential for building positive relationships with staff and stakeholders.
