Senior Accountant Job Description

Empire Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join their team in Port Elizabeth. As a key member of the finance department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, as well as providing strategic financial guidance to the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Data Entry: Accurately record and process financial transactions in a timely manner.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Verify the accuracy of financial records by cross-referencing bank statements and other source documents.
  • Accounts Receivable and Payable: Manage the creation and sending of invoices, as well as the payment of supplier invoices.
  • Monthly Financial Reporting: Prepare and present financial reports to stakeholders, highlighting key trends and areas for improvement.
  • Payroll Administration: Calculate and process employee pay and deductions.
Advanced Responsibilities:
  • Tax Compliance: Prepare and submit tax returns, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • End of Year Reporting: Assist with the preparation of annual financial reports, including profit and loss and balance sheet statements.
  • Business Strategy: Develop and implement financial strategies to drive business growth and improvement.
  • Business Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and performance.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to staff on best practice accounting and financial procedures.
Requirements:
  • BCom Accounting or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 3 years of experience in accounting and payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in Sage and Sage Payroll software.
  • Knowledge of legal software and understanding (advantageous).
  • E-filing capabilities.
