Job Title: Lead Electrical Engineer

Job Summary:

The Lead Electrical Engineer will be responsible for directing and coordinating the electrical engineering team to ensure the successful completion of projects. This includes planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling electrical engineering projects within the assigned authority.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor electrical engineers and draughtspeople to ensure high-quality designs and projects.
  • Design and develop electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial and industrial purposes.
  • Plan and implement research methodologies and procedures to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.
  • Collect and analyze data, perform calculations, and prepare diagrams and drawings of electrical installations and circuitry.
  • Provide preliminary drawings and samples to clients for selection and approval.
  • Study technical drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to ensure installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
  • Ensure completed works meet specifications and safety standards.
  • Estimate labor, material, and construction costs and prepare specifications for the purchase of materials and equipment.
  • Attend meetings on-site and supervise the installation, start-up, operation, and maintenance of electrical plants.
  • Perform limited project management for electrical engineering projects.
  • Produce design calculations, sketches, drawings, and details using relevant software, including checking and reviewing these prior to issue.
  • Assist the project manager in preparing and reviewing project costs and risk assessments.
  • Represent the company on factory acceptance tests and site testing and commissioning activities.
  • Communicate project status to internal directors and external stakeholders (clients) on an ad-hoc and formal basis.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a similar qualification.
  • Registered with ECSA or a recognized professional body as a professional engineer.
  • Experience in managing a team of junior and senior employees.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in engineering design, management, and construction.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in performing electrical/mechanical design.
  • Extensive experience in design and construction of steel water pipeline pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works, and water treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements, including the Employee Equity Act, Labour and Employment laws, OHS Act, and design compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, and various civil and water design software.
  • Driver's license is essential.
  • Quality management to ensure ISO compliance.
  • Regular interprovincial and international site visits and meetings.
