Safety and Health Manager

The Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced Safety and Health Manager to join our team at the Rosslyn Snackworks facility. This pivotal role involves overseeing our safety, health, and environmental initiatives to ensure full compliance with statutory requirements and enhance our workplace safety culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety & Health Management: Ensure site compliance with the OHS Act and relevant regulations, including legal appointments and SHE committee functions. Conduct risk assessments and implement programs to mitigate risks effectively. Lead behavior-based safety initiatives and maintain visible safety leadership. Report on and investigate all incidents and near misses. Maintain ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 accreditations and drive continuous improvement.
- Environmental and Waste Management: Ensure compliance with NEMA and related regulations, managing aspects and impacts of environmental requirements. Oversee waste management and emissions contractor performance, implementing strategies for waste reduction. Report on and manage water and energy usage, driving sustainability initiatives.
- Emergency, Fire, Risk, and Security Management: Develop and implement emergency response protocols and conduct regular drills. Manage access control systems and collaborate with security contractors to enhance site safety. Participate in audits and investigations related to security incidents.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience: Experience: 5-10 years in a manufacturing environment (FMCG preferred), with 3-5 years in a mid-senior SHE management role. Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related legislation. ISO 45000 and ISO 14000 auditor status is advantageous. Education: BTech / BSc in Safety, Occupational Health, or Environmental Management.
Key Competencies: Strong decision-making and leadership skills. Excellent communication and networking abilities. Proven track record in planning and organizing. Ability to cope with pressures and adapt to change.
Additional Requirements: Flexibility to work overtime and be on standby as needed. Ability to stand in for the line manager when required. Critical thinking and a strong commitment to compliance and safety standards.
