Senior Renewable Energy Lawyer

The successful candidate will be responsible for all legal aspects of renewable projects, including development, bidding, procurement, financing, constructing, operating, and decommissioning wind, solar, and battery projects in Southern Africa.
Responsibilities will include:
- Green field development and securing of land rights on private, communal, and state-owned land, including drafting and negotiation of option agreements, lease agreements, servitude agreements, and way leaves.
- Assisting with environmental matters, such as EA appeals and review of permits, from a legal perspective.
- Acquisitions of projects, including providing legal advice to the commercial team and assisting with the due diligence process.
- Assisting the business development team with drafting the investment dossier and legal memos to obtain authorization and funding for projects.
- Evaluating, appointing, and managing external legal counsel, including sponsor and lenders' legal advisors.
- Leading the financial close of projects, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating project documents, corporate documents, finance agreements, security packages, construction agreements, supply agreements, land agreements, and equity documents.
- Managing the condition precedent process during financial close.
- Assisting and advising the procurement and technical leads with major contractor procurement processes, including RFP processes and negotiation of major construction agreements.
- Ensuring proper corporate governance principles applicable to all entities, including drafting of resolutions, corporate documents, and attending board meetings.
The position reports directly to the Head of Legal and functionally into various project stakeholders, including project directors, CEOs, and asset managers.
