Historical Miller

We are seeking a passionate and skilled individual to join our team at Babylonstoren, a historic grain watermill and distillation facility. As a Historical Miller, you will be responsible for demonstrating the art of grain milling and basic distillation tasks to the public and school groups.

• Perform daily demonstrations of grain milling and distillation tasks, engaging with visitors and explaining the historical context.
• Prepare the milling and distillation areas for daily activities, including setting up the fire, checking mechanical elements, and maintaining general cleanliness.
• Package flour and liquor made in demonstration areas for sale in the Soetmelksvlei shop and maintain adequate stock levels.

• Formal or informal training in grain milling and/or distillation is preferred, although we welcome applicants with a background in any technical craft or practice.
• Matric or a relevant higher qualification would be advantageous.
• Experience with working in a small team and excellent people skills, including public-facing and internal communication.
• Fluent in both written and spoken Afrikaans and English.
• Reliable and well-organized, with a creative mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
