Job Opportunity: Postdoctoral Researcher in Biorefineries and Bioenergy

We are seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our team at Process Engineering, Stellenbosch University. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting techno-economic and sustainability assessments of biomass conversion to energy, chemicals, and materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct independent research on AspenPlus process simulations, life cycle environmental assessments with SimaPro, and techno-economics for various process technologies.
  • Provide technical support to other researchers in the group working on similar projects.
  • Critically evaluate existing technologies and propose technical developments to improve them.
  • Contribute to the publication of research outputs from current and previous projects.
  • Develop new areas of research within the research group.
  • Write new funding proposals to sustain research activities.
About the Position:

This postdoctoral fellowship is available for a minimum period of 12 months, with a starting date of 1 January 2025, or shortly thereafter. The position is renewable based on performance and funding availability. A competitive scholarship has been granted for the position, and it will be awarded tax-free.

Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, obtained within the past five years, with a strong background in process simulations, techno-economics, and LCA assessments. Candidates with a proven track record in chemical process design, process simulations, techno-economic assessments, and life cycle assessments are particularly encouraged to apply.
