Palesa Mbali Group Tax Advisory Role

This role is designed to support the Director of the firm in delivering tax advisory and dispute resolution services to taxpayers. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on tax implications of business activities or transactions from a tax law perspective, structuring for various client requirements, and representing taxpayers in challenging assessments/decisions of tax authorities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct consultations with taxpayers to identify tax issues/problems.
  • Design and implement effective tax solutions.
  • Conduct legal research and draft tax opinions, structures, and presentations.
  • Draft and compile detailed briefs for advocates or academics required to comment on tax questions.
  • Read and interpret financial statements and accounting records of businesses and engage with accountants to solve for taxpayers.
  • Read and interpret assessments/documents imposing tax issued by SARS and formulate appropriate responses.
  • Tax research and drafting, including submission of dispute resolution documents.
  • Advising on all aspects of tax laws, including Income Tax Act, Value Added Tax Act, Customs and Excise, Tax Administration Act, Securities Transfer Tax Act, and Transfer Duty.
Requirements:
  • LLB Degree
  • Must be an Admitted Attorney
  • At least 4 years of proven experience
