Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Specialist to join our team at Nedbank. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing commercially relevant tax advice and support to the organization, ensuring that delivered systems, processes, services, and solutions are aligned with our tax strategy and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advisory and review services to ensure accurate reporting, implementation, and adherence to necessary processes and controls.
  • Identify and quantify tax risks within clusters related to significant transactions.
  • Approve new products by reviewing and assessing the tax risk/benefit associated with them.
  • Identify tax savings and tax planning opportunities.
  • Plan, track, and monitor tax-related projects to ensure project goals and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed time frame, agreed quality, and funding parameters.
  • Ensure data integrity by providing advice on system changes and configuring systems to cater for tax legislation changes.
  • Ensure data integrity and completeness through interrogation and analytical review.
  • Reduce risks and ensure compliance by reviewing tax returns.
  • Resolve internal and external audit issues and findings.
  • Develop and design tax rules for systems.
  • Identify possible risk areas through compliance tracking.
  • Build trusting and collaborative professional relationships within the department and across clusters.
  • Ensure legal compliance and reduce reputational risks or financial loss by attending to stakeholder queries.
  • Understand stakeholders' needs to provide value-added and timeous technical advice and service through ongoing consultation.
  • Consult with external advisors to obtain advice on uncertain tax positions.
  • Increase awareness and compliance through communication and training to business on legislative changes, processes, and policies.
  • Influence changes in legislation by providing comment to National Treasury.
  • Represent Nedbank at industry bodies and lobby for tax legislation changes and ensure alignment.
  • Ensure continuous development with relevant knowledge to stay abreast with developments in Tax compliance/Advisory and reporting in line with specialist skills.
  • Improve personal capability and stay abreast of developments in the Tax field by identifying training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from managers.
  • Ensure personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles and responsibilities by ensuring all learning activities are completed, experience practiced, and certifications obtained and/or maintained within specified time frames.
  • Enable skilling and required corrective action to take place by sharing knowledge and industry trends with team and stakeholders during formal and informal interaction.
  • Obtain buy-in for developing new and/or enhanced processes (e.g., operational processes) that will improve the functioning of stakeholders' businesses by highlighting benefits in support of the implementation of recommendations.
  • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g., staff surveys).
  • Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy.
  • Seek opportunities to improve business processes, models, and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and add value to Nedbank.
Essential Qualifications
  • Professional Qualifications/Honour's Degree
Preferred Qualification
  • Law with specialisation in Tax /or Accounting/or Tax
Minimum Experience Level
  • 3-6 years experience
