Job Summary
The Milieu Counselor plays a vital role in our inpatient treatment programs, working under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor/Manager to facilitate communication with patients and maximize program participation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist multidisciplinary staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment by encouraging patients to participate in group activities and sessions.
- Establish and maintain relationships with patients and hospital personnel, ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
- Observe patient behavior and record observations in patient charts and during case conferences.
- Participate in crisis situations, including Condition 10 or as patient-related situations occur.
- Communicate during shift change meetings, including patient room checks and successful handoff at end of shift.
- Conduct room checks in all patient rooms as required throughout the shift and document appropriately.
- Assist in coordinating the unit admission process for patients, including physical body and baggage searches, orientation to the unit, and other related duties.
- Assist in making sure patients attend group sessions and activities.
- Assist with recreational activities as needed.
- Participate in Performance Improvement Initiatives.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred. Six months related experience and/or training, and CASAC-T preferred. Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and manage time accordingly to meet deadlines and requirements of the organization. Basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook). Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
