About the Role:

As a seasoned Operations Director, you will be responsible for leading the production team in our meat production facility based in City Deep, Johannesburg South. Your primary objective is to ensure daily production targets are met while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality assurance.

This role requires a strategic thinker who can optimize workflows, drive continuous improvement, and manage high-volume, short shelf-life chilled products efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the production team to achieve KPI targets, ensuring smooth operation of people, product, and equipment.

  • Monitor carcass chiller inventory and maintain yields by implementing process improvements.

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure adherence to internal and external quality systems, including HACCP and food safety standards.

  • Plan and maintain running costs within budget, optimizing production efficiency while minimizing waste.

  • Schedule rosters and ensure compliance with legislative requirements, monitoring staff performance and conducting regular reviews.

  • Ensure the department is audit-ready at all times, adhering to quality standards and best practices.

  • Instill a culture of safety, maintaining a secure working environment for all employees.

  • Participate in quality meetings and proactively plan improvements for the deboning facility and related processes.

  • Exceed customer expectations in terms of product quality, service, and efficiency, driving business growth through exceptional leadership.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar position within the meat industry, handling high-volume, short shelf-life chilled products.

  • Certificate or Diploma in Production Management or a related field.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent planning and organizational abilities, and analytical skills to ensure high standards of quality and performance.

  • The ability to motivate and lead teams under pressure, logical and systematic approach to work and decision-making.
