Senior Mechanical Engineer - Mining and Minerals Projects

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the effective compilation of proposals and tenders, as well as the provision of cost-effective, compliant, and safe engineering, design, and construction support during project execution. This will be rendered in the Mining/Minerals and Water market segments.

Key Performance Areas:

  1. Deliver engineered packages that meet project budget, schedule, and quality standards.
  2. Provide fit-for-purpose engineering and design in all required industry segments.
  3. Manage project hours, budgets, and change/variations to enhance gross profits.
  4. Ensure project execution in accordance with Client and company policies, procedures, and frameworks.
  5. Provide construction, installation, and commissioning project support.
  6. Generate and develop equipment cost estimates, man-hour estimates, and proposal documentation.
  7. Assist with tender and bid pricing for each market sector.
  8. Liaise with Clients to assess needs, propose solutions, and provide cost estimates.
  9. Generate scope of work specifications that define work included, excluded, and battery limits.
  10. Compile technical enquiry packages, evaluate tenders, and compile approved purchase packages.
  11. Manage and interface with Vendors/Suppliers and Contractors to meet project objectives.
  12. Execute progress inspections, FATs, and final releases for Vendor/Supplier equipment.
  13. Review Vendor/Supplier documentation for compliance with technical requirements.
  14. Maintain effective inter-discipline integration with other disciplines.
  15. Provide input to plant reviews in terms of layout, equipment placement, maintainability, and operability.
  16. Provide input to the development and optimization of mechanical drawings.
  17. Do functional designs for pumps, piping, plate work, structures, and supports.
  18. Maintain and update mechanical equipment lists and related registers.
  19. Execute work in compliance with relevant legislation, codes, standards, company policies, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  2. Capacity to handle pressure.
  3. Ability to work in a team and mentor peers.
  4. Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Output/results and deliverables driven.
  6. Proven track record of 6 years plus relevant mechanical engineering experience in related work within the Mining/Minerals/Water projects environment.
  7. Experience with a wide range of mechanical equipment.
  8. Working experience in feasibility studies and project execution is required.
  9. Discipline-specific engineering skills.
  10. B.Sc. / B.Eng or B Tech Mechanical Engineering.
  11. Professional Engineer Certification (ECSA) required.
