The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice on blood banking and transfusion practices and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Performance Area (KPA) 1 Operational Objectives include:

  • Providing expert advice on blood banking and transfusion practices.
  • Developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for blood banking and transfusion.
  • Maintenance of accurate records of blood component usage and patient outcomes.
  • Identification and mitigation of potential risks to patient safety.

KPA 2 Specialist Technical functions include:

  • Verification of test results performed by registered technicians, registered trainee technicians, and registered student technologists.
  • Assistance with training and competency assessments.
  • Performance of secondary testing, including but not limited to, problem cross-matches, postnatal, antibody investigations, and preliminary transfusion reaction investigations within required timeframes and according to SOP specifications.

The ideal candidate will have a HPCSA Registered Biomedical Technician/Technologist (Blood Transfusion) qualification and relevant experience. Knowledge of relevant legislation, company procedures, and computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook are also essential.
