Job Title: Junior Accountant

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Junior Accountant to join our team at West Coast Personnel. As a Junior Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions, as well as providing exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Income Tax Returns: Prepare and submit Trust, Individual, and Company income tax returns, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Evaluating Assessments: Conduct thorough evaluations of tax assessments, identifying and correcting any errors or discrepancies.
  • SARS Correspondence: Communicate effectively with SARS consultants and manage tax return queries, ensuring prompt and accurate resolution.
  • SARS Procedures: Understand and adhere to SARS procedures and deadlines, ensuring timely submission of tax returns and other financial documents.
  • Problem Solving: Address tax-related issues and queries, providing effective solutions and recommendations to clients.
  • Client Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with clients regarding their tax matters, ensuring transparency and trust.
  • General Tax Queries: Assist with various tax queries and ad hoc tax tasks, providing expert advice and guidance.
  • Pressure Management: Work efficiently under pressure, meeting deadlines while delivering high-quality work and exceptional client service.
  • Team Support: Collaborate with other members of the department as needed, providing support and assistance to ensure seamless operations.
  • Liaising with Clients: Liaise with clients to gather information and provide updates on their tax status, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Refund Matters: Handle queries related to tax refunds, ensuring prompt and accurate resolution.
  • Annual Financial Statements: Assist and review annual financial statements in coordination with the assistant accountant, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Provisional Tax: Calculate and submit provisional tax, ensuring timely and accurate payment.
  • Donations and Tax Compliance: Manage tax clearance certificates, foreign investment tax clearance, and ensure tax compliance with SARS.
  • Registrations: Handle VAT and PAYE registrations, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
  • Tax Directives: Request tax directives and handle payment suspensions/appeals, ensuring prompt and accurate resolution.
  • Administrative Tasks: Manage mail, calls, and appointments with SARS agents, ensuring efficient and effective communication.
  • Meetings with SARS: Attend meetings with SARS representatives as required, ensuring accurate and timely communication.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of working experience in a similar position within a tax and accounting environment is essential.
  • Education: A degree in Accounting, Tax, or equivalent qualification is advantageous.
  • Certification: Preferably a registered tax practitioner.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act.
  • Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, client communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Language: Fluent in both English and Afrikaans (reading, writing, and speaking).
