About the Role

The main purpose of this position is to develop, implement, and improve health and safety plans, programs, and procedures. This includes ensuring compliance with relevant Health and Safety Legislation.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reporting all incidents on site, preparing all required documentation, and facilitating incident investigations as needed.
  • Support the development of OHS policies and programs.
  • Providing guidance on various safety-related matters.
  • Conducting risk assessments and enforcing preventative measures.
  • Conducting regular site inspections and recording them as per the safety schedule.
  • Maintaining electronic document systems.
  • Ensuring that all policies are available and displayed on-site.
  • Ensuring compliance with PPE requirements and ordering thereof.
  • Arranging morning meetings with employees to ensure tasks are completed safely.
  • Organizing SHE Committee meetings.
  • Drafting/revising Legal appointments, SOPs, and SWPs.
  • Recording checklists, procedures, fitness medicals, training, daily safe declarations, etc.
  • Managing contractors and approving safety files.
  • Participating in authority inspections/reports, training, incident investigation, and audits as required.
  • Scheduling SHE-related training on-site.
  • Monthly reporting on safety performance (leading/lagging indicators) and implementing the company's Safety Improvement Plan.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Matric certificate or equivalent.
  • SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent.
  • A sound knowledge of SHEQ legal requirements within the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 and Regulations.
  • A high level of competence in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • A diploma/Degree would be advantageous.

Experience:

Three to five years of work experience as a Safety Officer.
