Project Development Director

The Royal Portfolio is seeking a seasoned professional to lead the development of new projects and oversee the growth of its infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in property development and infrastructure management, with a technical approach to managing projects.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and evaluate project requirements and components
  • Accurately cost projects and manage budgets
  • Create and manage project schedules, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with safety and building regulations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, contractors, and local authorities
  • Coordinate with architects, designers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution
  • Research and select suppliers, and sign off contracts with the legal department
  • Authorize project payments
  • Oversee the functioning, effectiveness, and maintenance of infrastructure, including solar plants, power generation, sewerage treatment, boreholes, dams, pumps, and pipelines
  • Collaborate with senior management on strategic planning and future development opportunities

REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical)
  • 10+ years of experience in a project development role
  • Project management qualification and/or experience
  • A focus on luxury hospitality projects would be an advantage
  • A track record of delivering projects by managing teams of multi-skilled contractors
  • Strong leadership qualities, comfortable motivating a team that does not report directly to you
  • A practical, technical, analytical mindset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of local building regulations and construction best practices
  • Proficiency in project management software and the Microsoft Office365 suite
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle
  • Based at our head office in Claremont, Cape Town, with the ability to travel to projects for extended periods

It is essential that the candidate can work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio. South African citizenship is advantageous, and a valid work permit is essential if you are not in possession of a South African ID document.
