Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced estimator to lead the calculation of geotechnical construction cost estimates. The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in a team environment.

The estimator will be responsible for evaluating the costs of materials, labor, and equipment for geotechnical construction projects across South Africa, analyzing project specifications, creating detailed estimates for clients, and developing estimates to support project planning, organization, and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Calculate the total cost of materials, equipment, utilities, and labor for geotechnical construction projects throughout South Africa.
  • Analyze client and project specifications to provide detailed estimates.
  • Develop estimates for planning, organizing, and scheduling project work.
  • Manage pre-qualification and pre-bid submissions.
  • Prepare estimates to meet project goals.
  • Ensure timely submission of relevant documents and budgets.
  • Regularly report to Management and keep clients updated on the project status.
  • Formulate contingency plans and effectively manage risks that might impact cost and time estimates.
  • Interact with other members of the contracting team and hand over all relevant information for the execution of successful bids.
  • Attend site inspections and deliver bids, when required.
Qualifications
  • At least 5 years' experience as an estimator in the construction industry.
  • Experience in the geotechnical industry beneficial.
  • Good working knowledge of construction standards and specifications including COLTO, COTO and other SANS & SABS standards.
  • Good working knowledge of construction contract documents such as FIDIC, GCC, NEC, JBCC.
  • Excellent time management, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good management and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to closely collaborate with other team members.
  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
  • Good overall computer skills with a high level of efficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willing to travel and perform site visits.
