POSITION: TECHNICAL OPERATIONS MANAGER

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The primary responsibility is to supervise maintenance functions and ensure that all operational schedules are established, and equipment is performing at peak efficiency. Manage and enhance the Utilities operations to provide exceptional service to production departments. Implement programs and systems to achieve and maintain high standards of plant and equipment capability, availability, and reliability.

REPORTING TO: OPERATIONS MANAGER / GROUP ENGINEERING MANAGER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the execution of capital and operational projects.

• Oversee capex initiatives to enhance the capabilities of plant and equipment from installation through to commissioning.

• Ensure timely, budget-compliant, and specification-adherent completion of all capex projects.

• Create comprehensive drawings and specifications for capital and operational projects within the discipline.

• Implement systems and programs to achieve and sustain high standards of equipment availability and reliability at the facility, ensuring adherence to World Class Manufacturing principles.

• Collaborate with the maintenance planner to develop preventive maintenance programs and schedules for all equipment based on the adopted reliability strategy.

• Enhance machine availability by actively minimizing unplanned downtime through effective problem-solving techniques.

• Develop standard operating procedures to train engineering staff and ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.

• Conduct supplier evaluations to ensure equipment remains within operational parameters.

• Ensure compliance with all statutory inspections and requirements as per the relevant health and safety regulations concerning machinery.

• Assist in preparing cost estimates for budget planning, proposed projects, and other assigned tasks.

• Optimize the use of water, energy, and other resources to lower operational costs.

• Develop engineering initiatives aimed at reducing product costs, enhancing product quality, and addressing safety concerns.

• Ensure that adequate tools and equipment are available for team members.

• Champion sustainable development initiatives at the site.

• Optimize plant and equipment settings and operational parameters to achieve optimal quality, productivity, and service delivery outcomes.

• Meet all performance targets related to plant and equipment.

• Assist the facility in implementing programs and systems to uphold high standards of Safety, Health, and Environment.

• Collaborate with Group Engineering to coordinate all facets of engineering work, including financial forecasts, contract bidding development, approval of contractor payments, and turnkey project completion efforts.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES / KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• Familiarity with corrugator and converting machinery.

• Strong negotiation abilities.

• Proficient in planning, organizing, and management skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• National N Diploma (N5/T3) in mechanical or electrotechnical (heavy current) with a minimum of 2 years' experience with similar equipment.

• Trade Test as an Artisan – Mechanical/Electrical/Millwright with at least 5 years' experience with similar equipment.

• Engineering Diploma or Graduate Engineer (mechanical or electrical - heavy current).

• Government Certification of Competency (preferred).

• 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience in a supervisory or management role.
