Job Title: Shift Supervisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shift Supervisor to join our team at The Talent Room. As a Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of our production team to ensure that we deliver high-quality products on time and in full.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Allocate tasks and responsibilities to team members based on skills and workload to ensure efficient use of manpower and meet production goals.
  • Monitor workforce productivity and adjust staffing as needed to meet production targets and manage labour costs within budget constraints.
  • Maintain a skills matrix to identify training needs and gaps, and develop and implement training plans to enhance team members' skills.
  • Review and certify timesheets to ensure accurate recordkeeping of working hours.
  • Conduct performance reviews of line leaders under your supervision, provide constructive feedback, and support their professional development.
  • Address disciplinary issues promptly and in line with company policies, and implement corrective actions as necessary while ensuring fairness.
  • Oversee material handling and inventory management using the Translution system, ensure accurate tracking of materials throughout the production process, and investigate and address any issues related to production jobs.
  • Analyze production variances from set targets and take corrective actions, monitor production output to ensure it meets quality standards and delivery schedules, and set clear production targets for the shift based on overall goals and available resources.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date shift-related data for reporting purposes, generate and share shift performance dashboards with relevant stakeholders, and identify potential risks and issues and develop proactive plans to address them.
  • Conduct debrief meetings with the shift team to discuss performance, challenges, and improvements, and ensure proper utilisation of the Translution system for accurate material tracking, and manage data and processes within the Mango system to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Enforce safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, ensure adherence to established production processes and workflows, maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and specifications as needed, and ensure that production meets quality standards and take corrective actions if deviations occur.
Requirements:
  • Matric qualification with 5+ years' experience in a similar role in a factory environment.
  • 5+ years of practical experience at a supervisory level.
  • Strong leadership and ownership skills, with the ability to lead by example and motivate team members.
  • Confident decision-making skills, with the ability to make informed decisions promptly, even in high-pressure situations.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey instructions, expectations, and goals to team members, and listen actively to team members' concerns and address them appropriately.
  • Teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate seamlessly with team members to achieve common objectives, and work constructively with other shift supervisors to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Assertiveness skills, with the ability to express opinions and ideas confidently while respecting others' viewpoints, and take charge when necessary to ensure tasks are completed on time and according to standards.
  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex situations, identify issues, and develop effective solutions, and encourage a proactive problem-solving attitude within the team.
  • Reporting and analysis skills, with the ability to proficiently gather and compile relevant data for reporting purposes, analyse data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement, and present findings and recommendations clearly in reports.
  • Document writing skills, with the ability to create accurate and concise written documentation, such as reports, procedures, and incident reports, and pay attention to detail and maintain organised records.
  • Excel skills, with the ability to proficiently use Microsoft Excel for data management, analysis, and reporting, and utilise advanced functions and features to enhance productivity.
  • Delegation skills, with the ability to assign tasks effectively and provide clear instructions and follow-up to ensure tasks are completed as required.
