Position Overview

The Principal Business Growth Executive will manage all facets of the business development cycle, spearheading the creation and expansion of lucrative new ventures while fostering and sustaining essential business connections across various sectors. This role will engage closely with external partners and oversee internal stakeholders from project inception to commercial endorsement, utilizing project management expertise. The Principal Business Growth Executive will assist the Group companies in cultivating pipeline prospects for current operations and investigating new market opportunities, including the development of future initiatives, project management of prospects, and client relationship management as necessary. This position will report directly to the Business Development Executive.

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Establish and nurture relationships with government and regulatory entities at local, regional, and national levels to enhance support and participation for all Pele Energy Group companies in various projects.
  • Maintain partnerships with significant stakeholders across the public and private sectors as well as academic institutions.
  • Oversee existing client relationships to ensure ongoing profitability and growth across the portfolio.
  • Conduct thorough analyses and prepare due diligence for emerging opportunities and initiatives.
  • Investigate market trends to clarify client requirements, competitor activities, and unexplored potential avenues.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences and identify and develop critical new partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the management team to ensure robust relationships are built with both new and existing clients and stakeholders at appropriate levels.
  • Negotiate agreements and facilitate the transition from client acquisition to project execution.

Financial Oversight and Revenue Generation

  • Assist the current profit centers team in identifying and securing both project and corporate financing for all initiatives.
  • Promote the company's offerings to both new and existing clientele.
  • Review financial performance to identify trends and establish realistic targets.
  • Close new business agreements, including negotiations with clients, and align contract requirements with operational capabilities.

Strategic Planning, Reporting, and Presentations

  • Contribute to the development of annual business growth plans, quarterly forecasts, and monthly activity reports necessary to meet the company's objectives.
  • Lead data analysis, reporting, and knowledge management to guide business development strategies and operations.
  • Plan and implement client acquisition strategies in accordance with the business development strategic framework.
  • Provide insights into bid/no-bid decisions and maintain the pipeline tracker for the designated practice.
  • Ensure management, quality assurance, and compliance with client requirements during bid/capture efforts across sectors.
  • Conduct both long-term and short-term strategic research to inform the growth strategy of assigned projects.
  • Stay informed on any legislative changes within the industry to ensure that developed solutions and strategies are compliant and align with the broader development agenda of the company.

Team Leadership

  • Oversee all personnel under supervision and conduct performance evaluations and talent management activities for direct reports.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports, identifying team members for succession planning and career advancement.
  • Ensure effective utilization of systems and tools to manage knowledge efficiently for continuous improvement.
  • Recognize and recommend rewards for high-performing team members while promoting and respecting diversity.

Compliance and Governance

  • Execute responsibilities in accordance with all relevant regulatory and business practices.
  • Implement active risk management by fostering a culture of ongoing detection and resolution of compliance breaches.
  • Drive the management of the top five identified business development risks.

Qualifications

  • BA or BCom degree in Economics, Engineering, Business Management, or Sales & Marketing.
  • 6+ years of successful leadership experience in guiding business development teams to secure multi-million-rand energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
  • Proven business development and relationship management capabilities with a strong ability to identify needs and effectively communicate, negotiate, and close solution sales.
  • Skills in competitor and market analysis.
  • Experience in sourcing, managing, and executing new business opportunities.
  • Ability to present confidently and establish credibility.
  • Strong project and time management abilities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to analyze and quantify maintenance, capital renewal, and energy efficiency needs in various markets.
  • Solid understanding of structured finance concepts and vehicles such as ROIC, NPV, and financial proformas.
  • Exceptional people management skills with a track record of inspiring sales teams to meet annual sales objectives.
  • Excellent verbal, written, technical, and computer communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and business relationships effectively.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office.
