Job Title: Tax Compliance Specialist

The Legends Agency is seeking a highly skilled Tax Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a Tax Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of Income Tax Returns, as required by the South African Income Tax system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate Provisional Tax Return lists from GreatSoft for designated clients.
  • Ensure that all lists are provided to relevant directors in advance for review and note-taking.
  • Assist with the calculation of provisional tax estimates, as needed.
  • Upon finalization of all lists, generate provisional tax letters via eDocs and send them to clients.
  • Submit all Provisional Tax Returns via GreatSoft upon receipt of signed letters, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Complete Income Tax returns based on financial statements generated by the Audit and Bookkeeping Departments.
  • Complete Income Tax Returns based on necessary information obtained from clients, excluding those for which financial statements have been prepared by the Audit and Bookkeeping Department.
  • Attach all necessary documentary proof to completed Income Tax returns to minimize queries and revised assessments from SARS.
  • Complete Tax returns, forward them to PAs for client signature, and lodge returns with SARS within the shortest possible turnaround time, considering all constraints to ensure submission deadlines are met.
  • Address queries from SARS related to Income Tax returns, as directed by relevant directors.
  • Monitor the submission of returns for relevant directors, ensuring timely submission of returns that can be submitted.
  • Apply to SARS for client registration on eFiling, as required.
  • Draft statements of assets and liabilities, capital reconciliations, and tax computations.
  • Calculate third and additional top-up payments when necessary.
  • Ensure finalization of all verifications or audits.
  • Follow up on all payments and refunds due by/to designated clients on a list.
  • Ensure all payment and refund letters are sent to clients in a timely manner via GreatSoft.
  • Check Assessments against original and correct tax calculations to identify differences.
  • Inform the Tax Manager of any differences for possible objections.
  • Identify additional assessments and communicate them to the Tax Manager to request reasons and possibly object.
  • Control general administration of key duties and responsibilities, ensuring adherence to eFiling, GreatSoft, and eDocs requirements.
  • Perform other tasks as reasonably expected.
  • Request SARS to remit various penalties for various entities and tax types.
  • Apply for various tax directives.
  • Comply with the firm's System of Quality Management (SOQM), policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with the firm's Employee Code of Conduct, which includes the firm's HR policies, SAICA, IRBA, and IESBA Codes of Conduct.
Requirements:
  • Matric with accountancy.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Technical knowledge related to the job, including knowledge of South African Income Tax.
  • Consistent completion of Income Tax Returns accurately and correctly.
  • Effective organization of daily tasks, including time management, planning, administration, and reporting skills, meeting deadlines.
  • Client focus, both internal and external, responding to client needs and providing service.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Numerical accuracy.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Open Office, or Lotus, as well as Tax Planner and Professional Series (Accfin).
Work Environment:

This role will support one or more directors and requires work to be done independently with limited daily supervision.
