Black Pen Recruitment is seeking a highly experienced Chief Technology Officer to lead the development of a scalable payment platform that enables global merchants to seamlessly scale into Africa.

We estimate the annual salary for this role to be around $150,000 - $200,000, depending on experience and location.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and executing a technology roadmap that addresses the unique needs of merchants expanding into Africa, ensuring optimised payment success rates and seamless transaction flows.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading large-scale platform engineering projects and have a deep understanding of cross-border payments and payment processing ecosystems.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Platform Leadership: Lead the development of a scalable payments platform to help global merchants navigate complex infrastructure and payment methods in Africa.
  • Technical Strategy: Create and execute a technology roadmap that addresses the unique needs of merchants expanding into Africa, ensuring optimised payment success rates and seamless transaction flows.
  • Cross-Border Solutions: Develop solutions that simplify multi-currency transactions, cross-border payments, and integration with local payment providers, making it easier for global merchants to expand their reach.
  • Merchant-Centric Solutions: Partner with product, sales, and operations teams to ensure the platform supports the needs of merchants entering Africa, enhancing their ability to scale and thrive in this market.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: Leverage data to continuously optimise platform performance, ensuring high transaction success rates and an effortless user experience for merchants across the continent.
Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A strong track record of leading high-performing technology teams and delivering at scale while ensuring high reliability and low latency.
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing scalable and secure payments platforms, ensuring they can support high transaction volumes and diverse payment methods.
  • Deep knowledge of cross-border payments, payment processing ecosystems, and regulatory requirements in Africa.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to represent the company at industry events and collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment between technology and business strategies.
