We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Laboratory Professional to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will assist with laboratory logistics, specimen processing, and scientific experiments. A keen interest in research, particularly in allergy, immunology, and dermatology, is advantageous.

**Key Responsibilities

Logistics and Specimen Management:

  • Assist with the collection, transport, and storage of specimens.
  • Ensure proper processing of specimens in the laboratories.

Scientific Experiments:

  • Perform relevant scientific experiments in line with research project needs.

Laboratory Administration:

  • Maintain study-specific laboratory working files with relevant documentation.
  • Ensure good quality assurance and quality control.
  • Order laboratory supplies as needed.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of laboratory activities.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Compile monthly reports on diagnostic tests run in the laboratory.

**Required Skills and Qualifications:

We require a National Diploma in Biomedical Technology or a Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technical Certificate. Proven laboratory experience (1-2 years) is essential, particularly in molecular biology, immunology, or related techniques. Experience with human samples handling, ELISA techniques, and cell culture is desirable. Computer literacy and knowledge of medical terminology are also essential.

**Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary for this position is R250,000 - R300,000 per annum, depending on experience. The benefits package includes a 12-month fixed-term contract, with working hours of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, at Groote Schuur Hospital, Observatory.
