About the Role:

The Skills Mine is seeking a highly skilled Academic Guidance Professional to join our team as a Student Support Specialist. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the academic and emotional needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement social-emotional learning programs and curriculums to enhance student outcomes.
  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students, focusing on behaviour, school progress, and mental or physical impairment.
  • Collaborate with instructional leadership to develop and deliver professional development training on social-emotional intelligence and skills.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations to identify areas of need and provide targeted support to students and staff.
  • Coordinate events and activities that promote family engagement and support for at-risk students.

Requirements:

  • Masters in Social Work or School Counseling or relevant experience.
  • Registration with the SACSSP or HPCSA.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in primary school education, serving as a counselor or social worker.
  • Proven experience in implementing Responsive Classroom strategies, restorative practices, and social-emotional curriculums.
