Strategic Commodities Procurement Specialist

The Cardoso Recruitment team is seeking a Procurement Manager (Commodities) to join their team remotely. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with management and the sales team to develop and execute the procurement strategy
  • Procure commodities according to pre-season planning to ensure volume requirements are met throughout the season
  • Liaise with the sales team and suppliers to secure availability according to planned sales volumes
  • Canvass new suppliers and products to enhance the sales offering
  • Negotiate prices and build and maintain relationships with growers successfully
  • Coordinate the process flow between growers and suppliers and the Commercial Team
  • Ensure timely and effective communication between the procurement and sales teams
  • Coordinate product logistics from farm to loading points
  • Ensure timely loading and delivery of feed as planned
  • Stay informed about the availability of commodities, changes in supply, and trends in the area regarding quality, timing, volume, and weather
  • Evaluate sufficient product acquisition according to sales orders
  • Communicate timely if product is not available or does not meet specifications
  • Accurately and timeously complete all administration related to suppliers and products, including onboarding farmers, stock intake, certifications, loadout instructions, dispatch notes, and complete purchase prices on the financial system
  • Conduct quality assurance on farms and at loading points
  • Test and sample products to confirm quality requirements
  • Communicate QC reports to the sales team and suppliers
  • Manage quality standards by instruction and training on farm level
  • Regularly visit suppliers

Requirements

  • Adequate tertiary qualification
  • Experience in procurement and purchasing of lucerne and animal feed products
  • Excellent technical knowledge of lucerne and animal feed products, and post-harvest best practices
  • Proven track record of building and managing relationships with growers
  • Management experience
  • Computer literacy
  • Understanding of management and reporting systems
  • Available to travel regularly
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Easily adaptable
