About the Role

The role of an Intermediate BI Support Engineer at Dimension Data is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to join our team and contribute to delivering exceptional business outcomes.

As an integral part of the BI Managed Support team, you will work closely with the BI Support Product Owner, BI Professional Services Team to ensure seamless support for our clients' business intelligence environments. Your key responsibilities will include managing and maintaining client BI environments according to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and best practices.

Your day-to-day tasks will involve monitoring the health of the BI reporting infrastructure to guarantee optimal performance and security. You will also be responsible for managing all aspects of the environment, including data ingestion pipelines, reporting models, visualizations, and user support. To excel in this role, you will need to develop a deep understanding of the Microsoft Stack pertaining to Business Intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Incident and Problem Management: Identify, resolve, and prevent incidents and problems related to BI environments.
  2. Proactive Tasks:
  • Review Error Logs: Analyze error logs to identify potential issues and prevent future occurrences.
  • Manage Changes to BI Infrastructure and Configuration: Implement changes to the BI environment while ensuring minimal disruption to users.
  • Monitor SSIS Packages, SSAS Cubes, SSRS Reporting, Power BI Reporting, and Dashboards: Continuously monitor the performance of these components to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Performance Tuning of the BI Environment: Optimize the BI environment for improved performance and efficiency.
  1. Reactive Tasks:
  • Perform Root Cause Performance Analysis: Investigate and resolve performance issues within the BI environment.
  • Troubleshoot User Problems: Assist users in resolving issues related to the BI environment.
  • Refresh, Update Cubes:
  • Deploy Scripts and Packages:
  • Create and Update Dashboards and Reports:
  • Manage Source Control Solution Artefacts:
  • Manage BI Solution Security:
  • Performance Monitoring:
  • Analysis Services (SSAS) Monitoring:
  • Reporting Services (SSRS) Monitoring:
  • Power BI Maintenance and Enhancements:

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field experience required.
  • Experience and qualifications for the MS BI technology stack on cloud and on-premise.
  • An advantage would be if you have experience in the design and implementation of a BI project.
  • Must have 2 years experience in the BI product(s) that you will be supporting.
  • Ability to quickly assess existing data, test various data models, and propose alternative approaches to solve business problems.
  • Experience in database designs using relational technology, such as SQL Server, and other normalized data models.
  • Knowledge of database integration solutions would be an advantage.

Salary Range

The estimated salary range for this position is between $85,000 - $115,000 per year, depending on experience and location.
