We are seeking a highly skilled Regulatory Affairs Manager to join our team at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in Pretoria, Gauteng.

Job Overview

The HSRC is an independent research council that conducts research and provides expertise on human sciences and social issues. We are looking for a talented individual to lead our compliance management service and ensure that we meet all required laws, rules, and regulations.

About the Role

This role will involve conducting legal research, preparing legal opinions, and ensuring that internal controls are in place to meet compliance requirements. You will also be responsible for assisting senior management and the board with the interpretation of legislation and providing overall legal and compliance advice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions on various legal matters.
  • Ensure adequate internal controls are in place to meet compliance with all required laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Assist Board, Board Committees and Management with the interpretation of legislation to ensure that the HSRC acts within the confines and parameters of applicable legislation.
  • Serve as a legal and compliance resource and point of reference on legal and compliance matters.
  • Provide overall legal and compliance advice to the HSRC leadership and Management.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A recognised Legal Degree;
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience as a compliance officer/specialist/manager;
  • Post-graduate qualification in Compliance Management is preferable;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet set deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and analytical problem-solving skills;
  • Credibility to interface with management, researchers and support staff;
  • Demonstrate initiative, integrity and maturity;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • Detailed knowledge of South African legislation and regulations applicable to HSRC, including but not limited to PFMA, POPIA, HSRC Act, IPR Act, Labour Relations Act and their application.

We offer a competitive salary package of approximately R1 200 000 per annum, commensurate with experience, plus benefits such as medical aid, retirement funding, and annual leave.
