Accountant Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team in a management capacity.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role. They will be responsible for supervising a team of finance staff, preparing and processing month-end and year-end journals, and ensuring the accuracy of trial balances and general ledgers.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for monitoring and controlling accounts payable, preparing and reviewing monthly general ledger reconciliations, and overseeing the credit control function. They will also be required to compile monthly fuel reports, assist with the drafting of policies and procedures, and complete monthly VAT computations.

The Accountant will also be responsible for conducting regular internal audits, conducting stock-takes, and maintaining fixed asset registers. They will also be required to compile and analyze accounting trends, prepare statistical variances reports, and assist with the preparation of annual budgets.

To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. They will also need to have a strong understanding of financial accounting principles, including IFRS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of finance staff
  • Prepare and process month-end and year-end journals
  • Ensure accuracy of trial balances and general ledgers
  • Monitor and control accounts payable

Requirements:

  • 3 years of accounting experience
  • 2 years of management experience with 10+ finance staff
  • B.Com Degree majoring in Financial Accounting
  • Completed articles with a reputable accounting firm (advantageous)
  • IFRS accounting principles
  • Basic knowledge of HR legislation and practices
  • Experience calculating Fuel Reports
