Overview

UNICEF South Africa is seeking a highly skilled Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to join its team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the effective monitoring and evaluation of programmes to achieve results for children in South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

The Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to programme planning, monitoring, and evaluation within the office. Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and implementing programme plans and monitoring frameworks that align with UNICEF's global and regional priorities;
• Providing technical support to country offices and national partners to develop and implement monitoring and evaluation plans;
• Conducting regular monitoring and evaluation activities to assess programme performance and identify areas for improvement;
• Analyzing data and providing recommendations to improve programme effectiveness and efficiency;
• Collaborating with Regional M&E Advisers and HQ Evaluation Office to ensure alignment with global and regional priorities;
• Identifying best practices and lessons learned from programme implementation and sharing these with country offices and national partners;

Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

• An advanced university degree in social sciences, statistics, planning development, or a related field;
• At least eight years of progressively responsible professional work experience in programme planning and monitoring at the national and international levels;
• Fluency in English; knowledge of another official UN language is an asset;
• Experience in emergency programming, including preparedness planning and humanitarian crisis response, is an asset;
• Demonstrated expertise in monitoring and evaluation, including data analysis and programme management;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Willingness to travel to country offices and participate in training and capacity-building activities;
• Familiarity with UNICEF's policies and procedures;

About the Location

The Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will be based in Pretoria, South Africa, with occasional travel to country offices and participating in training and capacity-building activities. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Pretoria if selected for the position.
