About the Role

The Product Owner is a crucial member of the Agile Team responsible for defining stories and prioritizing the team backlog to simplify the execution of program priorities.

At Dimension Data, this role involves ensuring the conceptual and technical integrity of features, as well as systems and process operational integrity.

The Product Owner plays a key role in the lifecycle of a Product, from Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to retirement, working closely with Product Management, Service Delivery, Service Architecture, and Platform Delivery to deliver on their mandate.

They maintain a strong focus on Quality Control and are empowered to accept completed stories.

As the content authority at a Team level, they work towards optimizing the return on investment (ROI) by ensuring Scrum Team members are engaged in delivering valuable product features.

Key Responsibilities:

Providing Vision and Direction to the Agile development team and stakeholders.

Ensuring the team has an adequate amount of prior prepared tasks to work on.

Planning and Prioritizing product feature backlog and development for the offer/product.

Fully Understanding the product vision, roadmap, and growth opportunities to enable onward articulation into the development team.

Driving pilot clients through the transition process.

Assisting the transition team with any gaps in enabling new capabilities and features.

Assessing Value, prioritizing backlog items based on this value, time, and other team dependencies determined in the PI planning meeting and refined during the PI, to ensure focus on those with maximum value aligned with the offer/product strategy.

Providing Backlog Management, iteration planning, and elaboration of user stories.

Working Closely with Product Management to create and maintain a product backlog according to business value or ROI.

Leading the planning of product release plans and setting expectations for delivery of new functionality/capability.

Providing an Active Role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of release and iteration goals.

Establishing story acceptance criteria and accepting stories into the baseline.

Ongoing Operational Ownership of the Product post MVP completion.

Capturing and Maintaining Service Delivery capabilities.

Establishing a Continual Engagement with the GTM and Operational teams.

Building Out dashboards and product optimization strategies.

Requirements:

SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager certification.

Implementing and Leading SAFe technical qualification/certification or experience related to Product.

Knowledge and Skills:

Applicable Knowledge of the technologies and portfolio of offers used by the team.

Deep Knowledge and understanding of the systems and processes that a product is enabled through.

Demonstrable Knowledge of product development in an ICT industry.

Strong Knowledge of SAFe's practices and its application/operation.

Strong Communication Aptitude with an innate ability to say 'no' in a way that will not discourage or upset the business.

Understanding Fundamentals of iterative development.

Understanding Fundamentals of product/software development processes and procedures.

Understanding the Value of commitments to delivery made by a development team.

Understanding Backlog Tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition.

Being Able to Relate to and integrate with alternate development methodologies (e.g., waterfall).

Being Conversant in DevOps Practices and understanding the strong relationship and bi-directional dependency required with deployment teams.
