Job Title: PLC Automation Technician


Job Summary

On Line Personnel is seeking an Electrical Engineering Maintenance Specialist who will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing facilities. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and diagnostic skills, with a focus on electrical engineering and automation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain electrical equipment, transmission modules, and other general equipment to ensure availability and spare parts management.
  • Resolve PLC and robotic electronic communication issues to prevent recurring faults and ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Analyse, fault find, repair, and optimise PLC and equipment faults to achieve quality requirements and efficient production processes.
  • Make improvements to current PLC programs to build more robust systems and consult with technicians on shift regarding the same improvements.
  • Fault find, set up, and program SEW drives using diagnostics software tools such as Movitools and Motion Studio.
  • Be proficient in the use of software diagnostic tools to resolve production stoppages efficiently.
  • Coach other technicians in maintenance teams on root cause investigation, diagnostic tool usage, and improvement projects.
  • Contact equipment suppliers and technology experts within the company to inquire about solutions to complex equipment problems and failures.
  • Document production stoppages, severe breakdowns, problem sheets, and knowledge Management System sheets to ensure maintenance activities are documented and knowledge is retained.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of breakdowns by analysing causes, countermeasures, and actions, ensuring all is recorded and reported on required control sheets and documents.
  • Ensure automatic station and robot safety circuits are in good working order, meeting safety standards.
  • Download robot and PLC program backups to ensure quick recovery of facilities in the event of data loss.

Requirements
  • National Nated Diploma, National Diploma, B Tech, B Eng, or B Sc degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in vehicle manufacturing maintenance and/or technical environment.
  • Siemens PLC and robot training is a requisite.
  • Able to read E-Plan Electrical and Pneumatic drawings.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic capabilities, and problem-solving ability.
  • Prepared to undergo and successfully pass an appropriate assessment.
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, public holidays, and Plant shut down.
  • Willingness to be on standby roster.
  • Willingness to complete and pass compulsory training.
  • Good attendance record.

What We Offer
  • Salary: R55 000 to R60 000 per month, commensurate with qualification and experience, plus benefits.
