Pediatric Professional Nurse Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Pediatric Professional Nurse to join our team at a Private Hospital in Constantiaberg, Southern Suburbs, Western Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to infants, children, and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Care and Monitoring: Assessing the health status of pediatric patients, administering medications, and monitoring patients for any changes in health status.
  • Health Education and Family Support: Educating parents and caregivers about their child's health, providing support to families, and guiding families through developmental milestones.
  • Care Coordination: Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans, coordinating patient care across various settings, and ensuring continuity of care.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring that documentation complies with legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
  • Developmental Care and Play Therapy: Providing age-appropriate developmental care, including play therapy, to help children cope with illness and hospitalization.
  • Emergency and Critical Care: Responding to pediatric emergencies, performing CPR, and managing acute illnesses or injuries in the emergency room or intensive care units.
  • Infection Control and Safety: Implementing infection prevention and control measures to protect pediatric patients and ensuring a safe and child-friendly environment in healthcare settings.
  • Professional Development and Research: Staying up-to-date with the latest developments in pediatric nursing through continuing education, participating in research projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ethical and Cultural Competency: Respecting the cultural, spiritual, and personal beliefs of pediatric patients and their families, ensuring that care is delivered with empathy, compassion, and adherence to ethical guidelines specific to pediatric nursing.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing
  • SANC registered as a Professional Nurse
  • Diploma in Pediatric will be an added advantage
