Job Description

The position of Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant at Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires a highly skilled and experienced professional to provide pharmaceutical care to patients.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Interpret and evaluate prescriptions accurately, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and South African Pharmaceutical Council guidelines.
  • Capture script details accurately and verify patient information on the system.
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication, as well as awareness of common dosages and important drug interactions.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding the correct use of medication supplied.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
  • Verify accuracy of prescriptions entered and ensure they are signed by a pharmacist before dispensing.
Customer Service Skills:
  • Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop, providing expert advice and support.
  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and follow-up appointments as requested by the dispensary manager.
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients clearly and concisely.
  • Provide information to individuals to promote health and wellness.
  • Ensure prompt follow-through on customer promises and commitments.
Administrative Tasks:
  • Process all necessary paperwork for accurate submission of claims to medical aids.
  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid providers.
  • Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
  • Maintain accurate customer profiles on the system.
  • Merge local and central profiles as required, notifying UCS of profile merges.
  • Respond to messages on customer profiles and take suitable action.
Stock Control and Management:
  • Monitor low-stock levels and report stock errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Facilitate bi-annual stock takes and exercise control over stock, cash, and assets.
Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Valid driver's license and own reliable transportation.
