Insurance and Risk Officer

The role of the Insurance and Risk Officer will need to manage the company insurances, including claim management, annual renewals and general insurance queries as well as do continuous research and analysis on new insurance products and assist with contractual compliance related to insurance products. In addition, the Insurance and Risk Officer will undertake risk assessments and develop, implement, and monitor risk mitigation strategies.

**Principal responsibilities**:
- Overseeing company and project insurance policies, ensuring coverage aligns with business needs.
- Managing insurance claims and liaising with relevant stakeholders and insurers for efficient resolution.
- Leading insurance policy renewals, reviews, and negotiations to secure optimal coverage and cost-effectiveness.
- Continuously analyse the insurance market for trends, opportunities, and potential cost savings.
- Evaluate new insurance products and services relevant to our operations.
- Reviewing and evaluating contractual agreements, identifying potential risks and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
- Advising stakeholders on insurance-related matters during contract negotiations and renewals.
- Conducting comprehensive company-wide, departmental and asset risk assessments to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
- Develop, implement and monitor risk mitigation measures.
- Maintaining accurate records of insurance policies, claims, and risk assessment findings.
- Preparing and presenting periodic reports to management on insurance-related matters, risk profiles, and mitigation efforts.
- Any other job duties associated with this role.
**PERSON DESCRIPTION**
**Experience**:
3+ years’ experience as an Insurance and Risk Officer; if you have this in the renewable energy sector that would be to your advantage.
**Specific attributes**:
- Bachelor's degree in risk management, Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience in insurance management and risk assessment.
- Knowledge of South African insurance regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and willing to travel.
**Desirable attributes**:
- Experience in construction all risk, asset all risk and business interruption insurance.
- Experience in insurance claim management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and recommend appropriate solutions.
**What Does Success Look Like?**
**By month 3**:
I will be familiar with our insurance policies.
I will have updated quarterly insurance reports with assistance.
I will have met with the brokers to understand the policies
**By month 6**:
I have mastered insurance reporting.
I will have mastered the claim management process.
I will have mastered where to collect data for insurance updates.
I will be accountable for insurance and run with insurance claims and reporting on my own.
I will have built a great relationship with brokers
**By month 12**:
I can confidently run with the company insurances.
I will have successfully undertaken a renewal process.
