Amplify Online is a DG Murray Trust (DGMT) incubated flagship project, and forms part of DGMT’s strategy to support and develop innovation in South Africa’s nonprofit sector.
DGMT is a node of public innovation for South Africa driving towards a flourishing South African people, economy and society. Our approach focuses on identifying key opportunities to shift the trajectory of human development; and tackling the underlying social and structural dynamics that shape the outcomes of our programmes.
We operate by supporting and drawing on the grounded innovations of civil society; identifying and incubating breakthrough strategies; engaging in policy processes, and developing strategic coalitions and public advocacy.
The Amplify Online project consists primarily of a seven-month programme of part time, yet intensive, online learning, campaign development and strategic communication development where civil society participants can advance their strategic and practical skills and knowledge of digital communications. We focus on core components of online communication, including strategic planning, audience research, social media management, web management, content strategy (including SEO), data analytics and creative production. We have spent the past four years piloting, learning, and producing a successful product and model, with over 100 organisations completing our programme.
In 2023 we aim to expand our offering and reach to more members and become a more visible leader in the science of communication for social change, both locally and globally.
In our project work, we also run surveys and engage with civil society around the use of technology and communication to achieve efficiencies and social change. In 2023, we are working on sector-wide research, a tech and communication summit and streamlining our training and learning offerings.
About the job
This is a senior role and combines project management with creative content production, technical work, communications and teaching. This role would suit an inspired and experienced change-maker from the field of nonprofit communication, who has a history of working with online channels and technology, nonprofits, with a passion for education. You would be reporting to the project lead and working in a close team of three. You will ideally be based in Cape Town, South Africa with remote options available.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to and working closely with the project lead, you will be responsible for:
Project management (approx. 25% of time)
Support the project lead in management of project expenditure.
Contribute to strategising, planning and managing annual project timelines and outputs.
Co-produce internal presentations and board reports.
Assist project lead in strategic, public facing communication strategy and annual outputs like press releases, newsletter, social media and internal DGMT publication needs like our website page and DGMT publications.
Maintain engagement and nudge strategy for programme participants.

**Research and data analysis**: creating sign up forms, feedback forms and impact evaluations on experiences of programme participants and their organisations.
Research and analysis and support in research projects around how communication and technology is used in the nonprofit sector in South Africa.
Learning product and communication management (approx. 30 % of time)
Ensure user experience of content on the Moodle app is excellent.
Co-create (write and create visuals) and maintain (edit, fact check, update) Moodle module content.
Manage (simple) Moodle technical tools like user login flows, completion stats, assignment functionality and so on.
Co-produce technical learning series and manage these assets on Moodle, SlideShare and Google Drive.
Co-produce and maintain excellent, pithy written and visual content for the programme on our LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook channels.

**Manage design and content production**: oversee or create and maintain simple social media designs, illustrations for Moodle, using pre-designed templates.
Learning and mentorship support (approx. 35% of time)
Monthly strategy and planning meetings with participants and their seniors.

**Teaching and mentorship**: group presentations and teaching sessions on programme learning topics, modules and outputs; general ad hoc learning support - both technical (dashboards, online work) and strategic (module assignments, internal planning).

**Campaign support**: overseeing critical aspects of the campaign project and ensure participants complete their online campaigns.
Maintain technical series schedule and ensure material is disseminated and archived.

**Assessments and evaluations**: assessing and evaluating work and outputs of participants and building a picture of each participant.
