**Research Assistant: Senior Research Technician (S)**

**Duration: 1 year**

The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in its Health Systems Research Unit (HSRU). The purpose of this job is to assist and work with the study team and study monitors on the HERStory 3 Study, which is a study to evaluate impact of the My Journey Programme in 12 South African Subdistricts. The study takes place in 12 South African Subdistricts and the incumbent needs to be based in Cape Town but be prepared to travel to the other provinces within South Africa if needed.

**Responsibilities**:
To assist the Study Coordinator to coordinate and manage the logistics of the study implementation including to:

- Assist in training of field team
- Assist in the logístical arrangements for data collection
- Set up, manage, and monitor quality control and quality assurance processes
- Ensure data is collected, organized and stored according to SAMRC ethical principles
- Assist with management and problem solving of the electronic data collection tools and processes.
- Produce reports on study progress for project manager and team
- Assist with writing up the research outputs

**Core Requirements**:

- Matric/Grade 12
- At least 1-2 years’ fieldwork experience in public health studies
- Experience with enrolling participants into studies, obtaining consent/assent, quantitative surveys.
- Proficient in REDCAP or similar and MS Excel
- Code 08 Manual Drivers license
- Effective organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Self-motivated and the ability to work independently; manage multiple tasks and a small team effectively.
- Fluency in speaking and writing in English, isiXhosa and isiZulu.

**Advantageous**:

- Technical support certificate
- Experience in collecting data using Survey to Go / REDCap

A salary in the region of R234 360 per annum, cost-to-company will be negotiated in accordance with qualifications and experience.
