Duties/Pligte

**Analytical**:
Operating the various scanning electron microscopes in the CAF Microscopy Unit, SEM Laboratory in Stellenbosch;- Optimisation and troubleshooting;- Interpreting and editing images and data;- Collaborating on research projects;- Providing training to clients;- Providing support for research that makes use of electron microscopy;-
- Expanding the user base of the laboratory;- Assisting clients with project planning, experiment design and sample preparation, especially in the field of quantitative elemental analysis;- Writing official reports for clients as required.

**Other responsibilities**:
General maintenance of the laboratory facilities and equipment;- Providing assistance with requesting quotations from suppliers, ordering equipment, chemicals and consumables where applicable;- Providing assistance with ensuring safety and security in the laboratory as well as waste management;- Involved in the general administration and maintenance of the laboratory.

- Uitbreiding van die kliëntebasis van die laboratorium;-
- Ondersteun kliënte met projekbeplanning, eksperimentele ontwerp en monstervoorbereiding, veral op die gebied van element analise;-
- Opstel van formele verslae vir kliënte soos verlang.**Ander verpligtinge**:
Algemene instandhouding van die laboratoriumfasiliteite en -toerusting;-
- Hulpverlening met die aanvra van kwotasies van verskaffers en die bestel van toerusting, chemikalieë en verbruiksgoedere waar van toepassing;-
- Betrokkenheid by die toepassing van veiligheid
- en sekuriteitsmaatreëls in die laboratorium asook by die bestuur van afval;-
- Betrokkenheid by die algemene administrasie en instandhouding van die laboratorium.Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes- MSc or PhD in Earth Science / Geoscience / Geology;- Experience in operating electron microscopes in a service or research capacity;- Expertise in mineralogy and mineral chemistry;- Expertise in the electron beam analysis of minerals;- Excellent report writing abilities in English;- Excellent data processing and visualisation abilities as is relevant to mineral chemistry.MSc of PhD in Aardwetenskap / Geowetenskap / Geologie;-
- Ervaring in die gebruik van elektron mikroskope in n dienslewering
- of navorsingskapasiteit;-
- Ervaring in mineralogie en mineraal chemie;-
- Ervaring in die elektronstraalanalise van minerale;-
- Uitstekende verslagskryfvaardighede in Engels;-
- Uitstekende data prosessering en visualisering vermoë soos van toepassing op mineraal chemie.Recommendation/Aanbeveling- Troubleshooting skills and experience in independent data acquisition;Proven ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure.-
Probleemoplossings vaardighede en ervaring in onafhanklike data-insameling;-
