Key purpose of the role
The PR and communications specialist takes full accountability and ownership of coordinating all public relations and communication activities for 947, 702 and EWN.
The PR and communications specialist will create and maintain a favourable public image for 947, 702 and EWN by communicating programmes, accomplishments and/or points of view. Responsible for fielding media questions and pitching stories to the media, preparing media kits and organising press conferences developing a marketing communications plan including strategy, goals, budget and tactics for station brands, corporate brand, internal communications platforms and key events. Developing media relations strategies, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media.
Key outputs/ accountability
Seeking publicity opportunities, including distributing company news, scheduling media interviews, or speaking engagements for company representatives, etc.
Developing and maintaining relationships with journalists, editors, media producers, bloggers, and other influencers. Tracking results of public relations efforts.
Forecast cutting edge PR opportunities, to achieve and maintain a competitive advantage
Report on competitor activities
Timeous updating of the brand marketing calendars and ownership of these calendars from a PR perspective
Write press release and prepare information for media
Create content for press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations
Design sketches of the mass media announcement
Monitor, analyse and communicate PR results on a quarterly basis
Communicate with media regularly
Manage media inquiries and arrange interviews, statements, etc.
Build long-term relationships with influencers and key stakeholders
Collaborate with the marketing team and other stakeholders within the business
Serve as a facilitator and provide solutions for peaceful resolution of disputes
Create effective communication strategies for PMB brands, specifically 702, 947, EWN and digital agencies.
Coordinate external and internal communications flow
Educational qualifications and experience

Matric
Bcom or BA in marketing, communications, journalism and/or demonstrable experience or portfolio
Minimum five years relevant PR experience - including earned media, internal comms and stakeholder engagement
A proven track record of designing and executing public relations campaigns.
Extensive knowledge of the South African media space with a vast network of media contacts, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the media sector, including broadcast, online, print, and social media
Experience in posting strategically written copy on various social and digital marketing channels such as LinkedIn, Facebook, websites etc.
Broadcasting services experience is highly advantageous
Continental and/or global PR experience, i.e. having worked with global agencies/businesses would be advantageous
Required knowledge and skills
Proficient with MS Office Suite
Ability to proof-read and sub-edit
Ability to write webinar and presenter scripts and manage running orders for internal and brand-related client presentations
Organisational, prioritisation and multi-tasking skills
Knowledge of different cultures and appreciation of diversity
Solution orientated problem-solving skills
Excellent people skills
Strong understanding of reputation management and crisis communication.
Ability to create succinct, clear messages that can be repurposed across a wide range of content types
Experience in multi-tasking various projects and completing tasks simultaneously
Proven track record of PR and project management skills, including collaboration and communication with multiple internal and external stakeholders
Above average and diverse writing skills, proofreading and editing skills, English specifically
Diverse writing portfolio to include editorial, creative, marketing, sales and social media content
Must have existing media relations and the ability to grow and manage their own media database
Ability to network within the industry and develop beneficial relationships
