**Purpose of the job**:
To manage all IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT and international Transmission networking systems within MNO. Ensure the evolution of all IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT Transmission network systems through the management of best practice system planning and design. Ensure the evolution of the Transmission domain is in line with the MNO strategy and within capex and opex budgets.

**Required Qualifications**

Degree/Diploma in Electronic Engineering/Telecommunications or related qualification.

**Required Experience**
- 6 years’ experience in IP MPLS, Core & MBT Transmission planning and engineering
- In depth knowledge and understanding of SDH, PDH, OFDM, MPLS, IP and ATM principles.
- In depth knowledge of microwave, copper and optic fibre technologies.
- Knowledge of GPRS, EDGE and 3G principles and architecture.
- Knowledge of mobile network architecture.
- Knowledge of SDN, WAN and Cloud Technology.
- 3 years in a senior Management position

**The Job Responsibilities**

**1. Planning and performance - Nationally**
- Four-year IP MPLS, Core & MBT and international transmission strategy
- High Level design IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT and international transmission network
- Low Level design for IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT and international transmission network.
- Plan four-year capacity requirements
- Plan and test redundancy and diversity of IP MPLS, Core & MBT and international transmission networks on a quarterly basis.
- Measure IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT and international Transmission network quality and performance and develop performance indicators
- Maintain IP MPLS, Core & MBT and international Transmission network capacity and performance within network KPI’s
- Provide regular capacity forecasts and strategic network master plans
- Introduce new IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT and international Transmission features or parameters into the network
- Maintain grade of service within network KPI’s
- Manage the design and planning of (cost) efficient and future proof solutions for IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT and international Transmission network elements
- Manage the hand over to the operations department for implementation
- Ensure the constant optimisation of the Infrastructure.
- Ensure best practise planning methodologies are used for optimal network design.
- Notify Senior management in advance of “end of life equipment” and necessary steps to safeguard operations.

**2. Technology evaluation**
- Ensure regular technology evaluations and pilots where appropriate.
- Research new technology and trends within IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT, SDN and international Transmission Networks
- Ensure knowledge transfer to the operations sections.
- Define the engineering requirements for the new elements that will be added to the existing IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT and international Transmission Network.
- Devise the planning strategy for the evolution of the IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT and international Transmission network
- Strategically identify and recommend the procurement of new and or upgraded technology to support the organizational network strategy
- Assist the RFP department with the Evaluation of the cost implications of the new technology elements.
- Manage the technology trials and ensure the correct usage of the technology to evaluate the outcome of such trials.
- Investigate, evaluate and request the procurement of tools for supporting any IP MPLS, Core, and SDH & MBT Transmission planning initiatives.
- Manage ROI of all new IP MPLS, Core, SDH & MBT Transmission elements to company standards

**3. Configuration Management.**
- Ensure proper execution of Transport Networks software updates and upgrades.
- Implement and control procedures and tests for the acceptance of new equipment and software.
- Ensure data integrity of all Transport Networks related databases and software configurations.
- Review planned work for accuracy and completeness before and post implementation.

**4. Preventive Maintenance.**
- Implement and maintain strategies and procedures for hardware and software maintenance and support.
- Ensure the integrity and use of the System Support Plans.
- Organize and execute regular system and database audits.
- Organize and execute maintenance activities in cooperation with the NMC.
- Manage the quality of work, progress and the working methods applied of internal and external parties according to SLA’s and other contracts.

**5. Corrective Maintenance and Fault Management.**
- Follow up and manage fault resolution of escalated faults to suppliers according to SLA timelines.
- Ensure the integrity of fault reports for the purpose of SLA reconciliation.
- Escalate overdue faults according to escalation procedures

**6. Report generation**
- Provide reports to the business on the Performance and Quality of the transport network
- Report on improvements
- Compile problems encountered reports
- Research and submit special reports when required
- Weekly Capacity and utilization reporting
